When it comes to dressing for a wedding, every woman knows the general rule is to not wear white. Stealing the bride's thunder on her big day is not the goal of any good BFF! But how do you show respect for your host and hostess, keep your cool at outdoor weddings and be the distinctive fashionista that you are? Here are some tips.
First thing's first. What kind of wedding are you attending?
Think about the location of your friends' wedding and what your surroundings will be. Is it a church wedding with a conservative or traditional feel? Will you be hiking through someone's uncle's backyard in soft grass to a casual let-loose kind of wedding? Showing up in your favorite skin tight suede number at a wedding with a conservative family may cause an unwelcome reaction from Aunt Margerie. And no one wants to be the reason that Aunt Margerie gives the bride a piece of her mind!
Cool, flattering, and wrinkle-free.
A great designer to check out for beating the heat of a midday summer wedding is Jude Connally. Her dresses are well-known for their wrinkle-free and quick-drying fabric, perfect for a sunny Oregon daytime wedding, or perfectly packable for destination wedding attire in Maui. You never know when you or your BFF bride will need a touchup of lip gloss prior to a photo opp. There are so many dresses that include pockets these days, making it so much easier to stuff the purse under the backseat of the car and just bring the must-have items with us. No need to carry your purse while you dance with the girls. Breath mint, anyone?
It's nice to fit in, but even nicer to stand out.
Choose a dress with a fun print instead of a solid color. You'll stand out nicely from the bridal party when you pose for photos. Nautical prints, stripes and paisleys are all over the summer collection runways. And since the bridal party with undoubtedly be in solid colors, it's just one more way you can be distinctive. ; )
